Why is it that so many otherwise ethically normal people go out of their way to defend unconsentual infant genital cutting of males?  Why do so many either deliberately or otherwise unconsciously downplay this issue?  Ideas?-

I think the procedure has just been so normalized in the US over time, it’s harder for people to even *realize* it’s an ethical issue. That doesn’t excuse them, of course- but I think it’s at least part of the reason.
